About Jake
Jake Moreno made his first jump at 19 on a birthday gift from his older brother and went back the following weekend to start training. He spent his early twenties packing parachutes at the drop zone to pay for jumps, and eventually earned his tandem and coaching instructor ratings.
He has now logged more than 5,000 skydives. A typical day at the drop zone includes ground training for first-time tandem students, gear checks, several loads to altitude and time between jumps coaching newer licensed jumpers on canopy flight and equipment care.
Jake hosts because he likes seeing people move from nervous to focused once they understand how the equipment and procedures work. He also wants anyone curious about the sport to hear honestly what licensing and a career at a drop zone involve.
What you’ll learn from Jake
- How the harness, main and reserve canopies and automatic activation device work
- Correct body position for exit, freefall and landing
- How weather decisions are made at a drop zone
- What it takes to get licensed and work in the sport
