About Lauren
Dr. Lauren Kim worked as an associate dentist for two years after dental school, then bought a single-chair practice from a retiring dentist. She learned scheduling, billing and hiring on the job, mostly by making mistakes and fixing them.
She has since grown the practice to three offices with 11 dentists and hygienists. She sees patients three days a week and spends the rest of her time on operations: staffing, insurance, equipment and evaluating whether to acquire another office. Patient privacy is central to how her offices run, and observers only enter an operatory with the patient's consent.
She hosts because dental school covers clinical skills well but leaves out most of what it takes to own a practice. She mentors dental students on those business skills and wants to share them with anyone considering the field.
