About Jamal
Jamal Carter started cutting hair for friends in his college dorm and quickly had a waiting list. He went to barber school, earned his master barber license at 22 and spent a few years renting a chair before opening his own shop.
He now owns a six-chair shop in southwest Atlanta. Many of his regulars have followed him for more than a decade. Saturdays are his busiest days, and on Mondays, when the shop is closed to clients, he teaches fade classes to newer barbers.
Jamal hosts because he likes teaching technique and because the business side of barbering, from booth rent to building a clientele, is rarely explained to people starting out.
